Balance and Breath
I am a Navy veteran, serving in the early 1980’s.I retired in 2018, from a very physical career. I have chronic pain in my back, neck, shoulder, arms, feet and toes. Dealing with these ailments cause a lack of steadiness and confidence in activities that should be enjoyable.
I started participating in the Free Yoga for Veterans two years ago.It is held three times a week. Recently, I have noticed two improvements to my life. First, my balance has greatly improved. I feel more comfortable and supported in my body and secure on the ground. In addition, the golf ball has been traveling farther and swing seems more fluid.
The second improvement has been to my breathing. In yoga we focus on our breath. “If you are breathing, you are doing it right” is often said in class. I never thought of how to breath in or out, deep or shallow because breathing has always been a struggle. My whole life I have lived with a deviated nasal septum, thus making me a mouth breather 80% of the day. This makes common activities like eating and sleeping difficult. Nasal surgery was not a good option for me so I have lived with this condition. After two years of yoga with a focus on nostril breath, my nasal passages are more open and clear. I now can breath nasally at least 50% of the time! I have built up a larger lung capacity and can relax my breath more. Who would have thought the answer was yoga?
If you can breathe, even a bit, you can do yoga
Great studio for all levels! Very welcoming casual environment. Nancy and Lydia will put you at ease and help you grow in your practice.
The space is great but it’s the teachers and the owners that make this space a community! They each care about their students and you can tell that they love to teach yoga!
My experience at yogainme, and I mean not to overstate, has been life altering. Nancy’s care for the mental health and physical well-being for her entire Boomer class is incomparable. Barbara, too!
I love the camaraderie I always find there, and, certainly, the love and expertise from both of them. Great thanks to Nancy and Lydia for offering Yogainme to the community.
I love the classes and the people here at Yoga in Me. It is always a joy for me to go to class, the teachers are helpful and kind and it trickles down, changing my life in a positive way. Thank you everyone !
Lovely lovely lovely way to celebrate my birthday with a strong yet sweet class with the talented Lydia! Thank you so much for a chance to breathe and let go!
Yoga in ME provides a safe (physically and mentally) environment to practice. We are met by a wide variety of classes in a caring community that allows us to be ourselves and grow at our own pace. It feels like hOMe, OM intended.
I love this studio. Judgement free, accommodates beginners, open to questions, kind, clear and gentle criticism. I can’t say enough good things. I began with the 6-week beginners series since I haven’t done yoga regularly in years. I will be buying more classes. I’m addicted!
The instructors are so friendly and helpful with explaining all the poses. I left feeling so relaxed and looking forward to my next session.
200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training I Sooo awesome!!!!!
What a fantastic studio! Friendly, inviting and gentle on newbies! You are asked to do what you can, if it hurts, don’t do it, try . . . too difficult . . . . .not to worry, at least you tried. Great classes at every level. Best decision I made for myself! Feel better mentally as well as physically.
Fantastic studio with a gentle and welcoming atmosphere.
Great place to practice, learn and grow! Safe and welcoming with compassionate teachers.
Lovely container and safe space to stretch yourself and grow. Great variety of classes and teachers for everyone and every best day. Attitude of giving back and gratitude!
I’ve always had trouble being still and quiet within myself. Took just one class for Kacy to lead my Body, Mind and Soul with ease together while helping me reach beyond some of the limits I created within myself. So happy to have her and this studio close to home! ❤️
Lydia has such a calming presence. Wonderfully welcoming studio.
Thank you for our peaceful and educational Yoga with Turtles experience. It was wonderful! I can’t wait to return.
One of the best heartwarming studios I’ve ever encountered. Thank you for great prices, a great atmosphere and wonderful hospitality. I will be back when I return!
Kindness, Enlightening, Hope, Joy
Awesome , caring community of staff and members. Community-focused. All-inclusive. Amazingly supportive.
The best part of teacher training is connecting with other people! The community that is created is supportive & engaged, it’s an opportunity to learn about yourself and others by listening & sharing experiences, and the relationships built are truly unique & special.
I never tried yoga until I went to Yoga in ME and now I’m hooked. It is a welcoming studio with wonderful teachers that are very helpful, sensitive, and nonjudgmental. The yoga classes are an important start of my day now. Yoga in ME is such a caring community and I am grateful to have them in my life!
After retiring (early) I realized that my body was not ready to take on all the activities I had planned. Cancer treatments and surgery combined with a desk job had left me stiff and aching. Massage and chiropractic care helped but adding yoga made all the difference. Yoga for ME is the perfect place to start your practice in a welcoming relaxed setting. I was able to slowly to build up my body and spirit to the point where I feel well again. My husband even noted the other day that he sees a difference in how I move. If you are considering starting a yoga practice, this is a wonderful place to be.
In June 2016 I joined the Yoga in ME group and the positive changes it has made in my flexibility, core strength and sense of calm in my busy life have been more remarkable than I expected. I get more out of the practice two to three times a week than I did when I belonged to the local gym before. These changes are what have spurred me to recommend Yoga in ME to friends and I will continue to do just that. The orientation of your teachers is constructive and at the same time they recognize the abilities and limits of those who come to practice.
I’m 73 years old and began going to You in ME about year ago to the Boomers sessions. I really love this class. Not only is it restorative but’s it’s enjoyable. I look forward to the days that I go because I always leave feeling better not only physically but mentally as well.
The warm welcome, friendly helpful teachers, and noticeable health benefits are the reason I attend the Yoga in ME studio. I stated with the 6 week “introduction to Yoga” course and received a warm welcome with no judgement. The variety of teachers, classes, and slight variations in teaching have been instrumental in keeping up my interest. I’m sleeping better, my joints work better, and am more at peace throughout the day. Thanks Yoga in ME!
My husband and I took the six week beginner class and realized right away that away that Yoga in ME studio was perfect for us! The variety of classes allow you to chose the practice that is best for your day. The instructors are so supportive and unique! Love everything about this studio
Yoga in ME has been a great experience for me. The studio is comfortable and inviting. The instructors are encouraging and supportive, especially for those new to Yoga. The instructors provide alternate ways to do the positions so you can easily and comfortably make your way through the progression of positions at your own pace and ability. With emphasis on the breath and present focus, I feel calm, relaxed and energized at the end of each class.
Yoga in ME has become a home for me! The staff is warm and welcoming as well as being clearly in tune with ability levels and people’s struggles. It’s a place of peace and kindness. They offer a variety of special classes, paddleboard yoga, outdoor yoga and much more! I have had the privilege to observe the free veterans yoga; the studio is so generous to the community! I love my time on my mat there! It is truly a place I can self nurture feeling safe and cared for!
I so enjoy chair yoga- it has helped me with. improved balance , flexibility & decreased anxiety. There is a supportive , friendly & nonjudgmental community.
The instructors at Yoga in ME are outstanding. Not only are they well-trained and highly knowledgeable, but they are also extremely supportive and very accessible. During my first class at the studio, I immediately felt a sense of community. I am deeply grateful to Yoga in ME for providing a welcoming and safe space to practice yoga and realize true growth on a variety of levels — physical, spiritual and emotional.
I started in the yoga for beginners program and am now loving the Boomer and Basics classes as well. This studio’s supportive, warm and relatable staff is the reason I will continue my yoga practice here.
Yoga in ME is a welcoming place that teaches the movements and breathing of yoga at a comfortable pace and makes me look forward to learning more
Very happy with Yoga in ME. Great atmosphere and instructors. Facility is clean, inviting, and fun. Highly recommend taking the intro to Yoga if you’ve never been. Can’t wait until our next step with our Yoga journey!
Yoga in ME is a caring, comforting place for all. The instructors are well-trained and observant, giving personal attention when needed. The studio now feels like a second home to me. I look forward to each visit. It’s the place where I want to be.
I much enjoyed several years of weekly attendance at the Boomers Yoga Group at Yogainme and feel that my ancient body definitely benefited. After a six month hiatus caused by various health problems and some winter travel I returned to join the Chair Yoga group which I find helpful too. The instructors I have had have been wonderful and the participants friendly and fun. Definitely a worthwhile experience all round. Pat Ordway
Peace, acceptance and community is what I find at yoga in me. I often arrive at class wound up but always leave with a great sense of calm. The transition is amazing. The warm and caring instructors help you feel at ease, like everything is going to be okay. Dare I say I almost feel comfortable in my own skin at this yoga studio. It is truly a special place, a community of people who have your best interest at heart. -BLS
I am so glad I decided to walk into your studio that day in January 2018. I had thought about trying yoga for such a long time and now I can say it has made such a difference in my life. I love the instructors and the welcoming atmosphere of the studio. I love Yoga in ME❣️
You are the best. I love Yoga classes at Yoga in Me.
I have been going since you opened in Eliot. I always feel better after class.
My horse trainer always say I ride best after yoga!
I am an older woman who struggles with injuries and find the classes easy to attend and work around my particular issues. I never feel like I am bad or wrong because I cannot keep up. It is ok and I am told that. Do what you can and breathe.
A great lesson for all of life!
A warm and welcoming environment. Knowledgeable instructors who make you feel right at home.
Yoga in ME has created a studio that feels inclusive, non- judgmental, and meets practitioners of all levels and abilities where they are at. When they say “If you can breathe, you can do yoga,” they mean it. This is an environment free of competition or expectation to fit into a “yoga magazine” mold. There is a genuine sense of community here, both on and off the mat. The studio provides free or affordable yoga to veterans, people in recovery, and first responders and offers a sliding scale to make yoga financially accessible to all. The owners and instructors walk the walk, and provide gentle, intuitive guidance allowing practitioners to explore their own personal yogic journeys.
Started Yoga about a year and a half ago, got an intro class for Christmas. It was tough at first working through my Arthritis related ailments, but I loosened up quickly. I have regained an incredible amount of mobility in my joints. I would recommend Yoga in Me to anyone that would love to feel better in body and mind. Thanks to Nancy and all the staff for their patience and kindness in slowly bringing me along with my practice. Thank You.
My experience with Yoga in ME has been support, kindness, and consideration. All the staff are wonderful teachers. They work well with beginners to experts. Being something of a beginner, assistance is always welcome. I highly recommend this studio.
It is with a grateful heart I have found Yoga in ME.
I had not been part of a community as warm and caring as this group of Yoga practitioners. Upon my first visit, I felt welcomed with open arms and gentle guidance. I was not a practitioner before now but have found a calmness and strength I had not felt in quite some time. In addition to the benefits of yoga, I commend this studio for reaching beyond its walls to include the community and wrapping its arms around our VETS in Southern Maine. Bravo, Yoga in ME!
Great teachers – all are kind, patient and humorous! I learn something new in each class – maybe a new way to think about doing a pose or a new way to think about life!
I totally love going to Yoga classes here! The instructors understand the different needs of each individual. You never feel out of place. At your own pace…
Boomer Yoga is a community of men and women committed to improving their minds and bodies. Led by experienced, creative and fun teachers, Yoga in ME provides a safe, caring atmosphere in which all are welcome. I feel younger and stronger each time I leave the studio, who doesn’t want that!
I didn’t have any yoga experience before stepping in the Yoga in ME studio but now after a year I can see the positive changes yoga has had on me – physically and mentally. I love the calming and friendly atmosphere of the studio and the amazing instructors who are always encouraging and supportive.
